Looking for a DO to join Well Spring Health Center

Opportunity for a DO who is BC/BE in NMM/OMM.

Dr. Shay currently the only physician offering OMM services on a consultation basis in the Aroostook County.  This covers the entire state of Maine north of Bangor.  We need help with the rapidly growing patient load as new patients are booking four-six months+ out and follow-ups 2-3 months out.  Patients are very loyal.  Great referrals from the local doctors and mid-level providers (currently turning away >/=50% of referrals due to lack of space for more patients).  Patient load is from birth to geriatrics.  You would need to be comfortable with a wide range of OMT techniques, including Cranial Osteopathy.  An Electronic Medical Record is currently being used, customized for OMM.  This is an insurance based practice.

Two licensed Massage Therapists work in the office with us.

Dr. Shay is currently on staff at TAMC (The Aroostook Medical Center) and does in-patient consults for OMM only.  There are an average of 6-12 hospital consults a year, primarily in the newborn nursery.  Call is 10 days a month for the Emergency Department. (She has been called only 2-3 times in the past 10 years.)

Located at the edge of the North Maine Woods.  This is a beautiful rural area in which to live.  Located far enough away from the big cities to not be anyone's "bedroom community" but close enough for shopping trips and getaways.  2.5 hour drive from Bangor, ME, 5 hours from Portland, ME, and roughly 7 hours from Boston, MA.  Drive about 2.5 hours to Fredericton, NB or 5.5 hours to Quebec City.

Wonderful small town living:  Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce, City of Presque Isle, Real Estate in the region, Minimal crime and street drugs.  Great place to raise a family.  Low cost of livingThe Star Herald is our Presque Isle area newspaper and WAGM is our local TV station.

Primary and Secondary Education:  Aroostook County schools statisticsPresque Isle schools PK-12Cornerstone Christian Academy PK-7,   Easton schools PK-12,   Fort Fairfield schools PK-12,   Caribou schools PK-12, Ashland schools PK-12,  Maine School of Science & Math magnet high school.

College & University Education:  Northern Maine Community College and Univ. of Maine at Presque Isle.

One of the last great wilderness areas in the continental USA. There are more activities for participation than can be listed, but here are a few:

Outstanding winter sports: XC skiing & downhill skiing just on the edge of town at the Nordic Heritage Center, Quoggy Jo and Big Rock.  Home of the Feb 2011 #7 IBU World Cup Biathlon. (Leslie and Diana both volunteered for the week and Dr. Shay was able to be one of the two physicians for the venue.  There are lots of volunteering opportunities in a world class sporting event! They will be coming back!)  XC ski, skijor, mushing, snowshoe, or snowmobile out your front door.

Outdoor summer sports: camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, road cycling, mountain biking, fishing, fly-fishing and much more.  Visit Aroostook State Park for summer and winter activities. Watch or participate in the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest each August.

Consider time in the wilderness at Johnson's Allagash Lodge with a Certified Maine Hunting and Fishing Guide or Hewes Brook Lodge or one of the many other lodges or camps.  Baxter State Park is only about 3 hours away.

Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department helps keep the kids (and adults) in the community very active, year round.

If you like to participate in the arts:  We have the PI Community Players, putting on at least one community play or musical a year (this last year was Oliver!), the Community Chorus and Community Band.  There's also the Aroostook F-Stops, the local photography club and the Wintergreen Art Center.
