Eva Shay, DO
Dr Shay's interest in medicine began as a young missionary child in Congo, Africa where she was exposed to the culture of traditional healing. By the age of ten the interest in health care was growing. She would help missionaries by giving shoulder massages where she loved using her hands. She later decided to be a physician rather then a nurse as she "wanted to be in charge." Dr. Shay learned in college that her desire to help people with her hands could be combined with mainline medicine in the field of Osteopathy, so she became a fully licensed Osteopathic physician. It was the exposure to traditional therapies in Africa that drew her to holistic health.
A US Navy scholarship to Osteopathic Medical School led her to be come a Navy Medical Officer. Between Internship and Residency, Dr. Shay was selected to work as a General Medical Officer at the Naval Hospital Corpus Christi, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. There she worked in the General Medicine Clinic and completed her tour of duty as the Department Head of the Active Duty Clinic. During and after Residency she worked in two very busy Emergency Departments on the Southern Coast of Texas. After practicing full family medicine for many years, Dr. Shay chose to specialize in the area of medicine where she felt that she could have the most impact on the most lives and the area which she loves the most: Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM).
Dr. Shay utilizes a wide variety of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) styles, including Cranial Osteopathy, Biodynamics, Muscle Energy, Fulford Percussor Hammer Techniques, Counterstrain, Myofascial Release, Visceral Manipulation, HVLA, Prolotherapy and more. She enjoys working with individuals of all ages, from birth to elderly.
In July 2001 Dr. Shay opened Well Spring Health Center with the dream of it one day becoming a full wellness center. In May of 2008 we moved to a new office space and were joined by Chris Mayer, LAc, expanding our services to include Acupuncture. Massage Therapy was added in the Fall of 2009.
